Google Earth
After looking on Elly's blog, I noticed that she had looked onto Lynn Camelleri's blog and found out about Google Earth. Through curiosity, I did the same and was intrigued by what Lynn's blog post mentioned. I had no idea that you could do so much on Google Earth and the learning experiences that could be taught from using the tool.
Apart from typing in a location and viewing that location, I never really thought about the pedagogical side of the tool and how you could use that within the classroom. I knew that you could tag destinations on Google Earth as I had explored that part of it when I was younger, however I never considered using the tool within the classroom. Lynn mentioned that the program doesn't just show Earth but the Sky, Moon and Mars as well. This feature would significantly aide teachers when teaching students about the the different Science strands, while other features could be used in Mathematics and SOSE. Through exploration, I discovered that this ICT tool has a number of features that will support the learning of students as well as my own professional learning. The feature that allows you to look at cities of the past would be a great way to teach the students about ancient history while the 3D buildings and photos allow students to learn about the different lifestyles and cultures of people all over the world. I believe that the technology that has been used within this tool is amazing and the uses of the tool within the classroom are endless. I will use the digital tool throughout my teaching career as it is program that contains loads information that will be difficult to find anywhere else.
