Digital Video

As cited on Moodle, the "outcomes of student video production include affective, metacognitive, higher order thinking, communication and presentation, literacy, organisational and teamwork and moviemaking skill development."

In a classroom context, the school must have a digital video recorder to create digital videos and possibly a digital camera as well so that they can include still shots within the video. Teachers also need to make sure that the lessons are relating to the curriculum outcomes for that year level.

Movie Maker is the most common and accessible program to make movies however I have never used the program before. The only time I have ever been required to use the program was in my first year of University however I was able to use Microsoft PowerPoint instead.

As a teacher, presenting movies to students may be the tool that enables the students to grasp the concept of something. Especially for kinaesthetic learners, visual aides are important and help those learners to understand. Movies or film clips are visual aides that can provide students with information and images that can assist their learning and can be found on almost any subject.

Youtube is a tool that is very valuable when it comes to videos and movies. This site however should never be opened within a classroom as you will never know what movies will be visible to the right of the screen. Teacher Tube is a good alternative to Youtube as it ensures that there will not be any inappropriate links on the page and can be opened within schools. These website have videos on nearly any topic or subject and could be provide a teacher with great resources which will save the teacher having to create a movie themselves.
